Community Spotlight: Sophie Theallet & Room 502

Ethical luxury. Responsible fashion. Fair trade product.

Our woman is her own self. She does not believe in dress codes. She is naturally chic and open to the world.
— Sophie Theallet

Room 502 was born in response to the constant demands of the fashion calendar and mass consumerism. French designer, Sophie Theallet, worked as the right hand of Azzedine Alaïa for more than ten years in Paris. With her husband, Steve Francoeur, she moved to New York City where they lived in the iconic Chelsea Hotel in Room 502. The brand SOPHIE THEALLET was born in 2008 and her couture creations were seen on the red carpet, on First Lady Michelle Obama, and on countless women who were looking for timeless and beautiful clothing with substance and savoir-faire.

In 2016, Theallet slipped off the New York Fashion Week calendar and moved to Montreal. Four years later, she has re-emerged with a direct-to-consumer collection of ethically produced pieces that put the spotlight on her dressmaking skills. "Room 502's aim is to provide an ethical and luxury wardrobe for the working woman, without the high price and all the bells and whistles," says her husband, Steve.

Sophie adds, "my work as a designer consists of offering a woman impeccable pieces that simplify her life and give her a little more assurance to face the day." Room 502 proposes quality clothes in small quantities at an affordable price. Their objective is to offer women a timeless wardrobe, composed of essential, functional, luxurious, and modern components.

The greatest compliment you will receive when wearing Room 502 is how wonderful YOU look, not how beautiful your outfit is. And Sophie Theallet would not have it any other way. She often says when dressing her clients, "I want the woman to feel beautiful," and this sentiment is at the core of her creations.

Sophie & Steve have generously offered a 10 percent discount to our BU Style readers buying Room 502 for the first time. Simply put BU502 in the "discount code" box at check-out.
