Up Close & Personal: BU Beauty Rebecca Robles
We’re so excited to have Rebecca Robles as a core member of the team at BU Style. Rebecca has been with us for a few months now, heading up BU Beauty, so we wanted to give everyone a chance to get to know her as much as possible. There’s so much to love!
We also love celebrating the individuals on our team, so we want to take this opportunity to celebrate Rebecca!
Knowing first hand how intimidating shopping for makeup can be, Rebecca focuses on making sure each client feels safe and welcome. Her attitude is that makeup should be fun, playful, and something you look forward to. Rebecca's goal is to promote makeup as a tool for everyone to discover greater creativity and joy.
An all-around creative, Rebecca is also a performing artist, writer and illustrator. She holds a degree in Vocal Performance from Chapman University’s Conservatory of Music. As an actor, Rebecca can be seen in the comedy Search Party on HBOmax.
We asked Rebecca some questions. . .
What's a famous quote or song lyric you love? “A life lived in fear is a life half lived.” It’s from my favorite movie, Strictly Ballroom.
Where are you from? Berkeley, California
What's your style personality? Creative & Relaxed
How do you start your day? Coffee, texting my friends, and banging on the wall to kindly but firmly ask my neighbor to please stop playing the saxophone!
Rapid Fire! Complete the following sentences:
A confident person is. . . honest and kind.
People assume I. . . like to knit. I have no idea how to do that.
My preferred compliment is that I. . . am a good listener.
My favorite way to spend a rainy afternoon is. . . inside with my cat or on a walk in the woods wearing my favorite pair of hand-me-down rain pants. Wearing them makes me feel like an archaeologist on a dig.
A film I wish everyone saw is. . . Strictly Ballroom. It’s my favorite movie and the first film I ever rented from the video store. Also The Odd Couple 2. It’s a sequel from 1998. Most people I’ve told to watch this have texted me later saying that they hated the movie and had to turn it off after about 20 minutes. But I think it’s great!
A book I wish everyone would read is. . . I have two! Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch and Julia Fox’s new book, Down The Drain. I couldn’t put it down! I was pacing around my apartment simultaneously turning pages and texting friends, “You have to read this book” and sending them photos of whatever page I was on. lol.
My parents taught me. . . to always be curious—about people, places, food, everything. There’s something new to learn every day from every interaction and every adventure, big or small. Growing up I watched both of them start conversations with everyone, everywhere. I think I probably got that from them.
Skin is. . . wildly deserving of our love and care! Our skin protects us from so much! She’s always working overtime so it makes sense to give Her our love and gratitude in return. Taking the time to care for our skin with sunscreen, moisturizer, and even kind words is a great way to say thanks! : )
Beauty is. . . in every moment when we speak from the heart and share our truth. Even when it's scary! It’s easier said than done, but whenever I feel like I can access that part of myself and be vulnerable with others, that’s when I feel the most connected to what I find beautiful. And that’s something I find most beautiful in other people, too.
When I think about my creativity, I. . . cry? Ha! But I do! Sometimes! And I get excited. Thinking about my creativity gets me emotional. I’m grateful I get to bring my creativity to work every day.
I decompress with. . . FaceTiming with my friends and family. I can’t get enough of a good video chat. So many of my favorite people live far away so I’m wildly grateful for this technology. I’ll gladly Zoom the night away!
My favorite thing about BU is. . . the emphasis on building community and taking care of each other. I love people so much and BU prioritizes that human connection over everything. It makes me feel good to know that I am a part of a team with these core values :)
My performing artist life is. . . something I can’t live without and probably my first Great Love. It’s about so much more than just singing or acting or doing a comedy routine in front of an audience. It’s about storytelling and collaboration. It’s teamwork. Like creating a giant painting in real time with a bunch of people you love.
My soul is. . . full of chorizo and coconut cake at the moment. My dinner tonight was pretty nuts.
